Mitzi Perez
Allow Me to Introduce Myself..

My name is Mitzi and I am the primary caregiver to my dad who has ALS.
Don't know what ALS is?
It stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a terminal illness that, over time, paralyzes the patient as the brain is no longer able to communicate with the muscles of the body. So eventually the patient has no movement, no speech, and is basically a prisoner of his/her own body. There is currently no cure and about 6,000 people are diagnosed per year in the USA.
Sound horrible? It is. (if you want to support ALS research you can do so here)
My mom passed away 10 years ago (this December - 2019) from colorectal cancer.
I have three sisters who also help out with my dad’s care and we are lucky to have government services and great doctors, too.

I hope that through sharing my journey, tips and tricks that I can give a glimpse in to what it’s like to be a caregiver for those who have no idea and to offer those who know it all too well a place to feel like they are not alone or to share their stories and.or seek comfort.
We caregivers are not alone.
